Anita Chumnanvech

President

Anita Chumnanvech is a Southeast Texas native who’s turned her Texas roots into a career of showing up for her community. From grassroots campaigns to city planning committees, her work centers on door-to-door outreach and empowering local voters.

She cut her teeth as a campaign manager for local elections, learning the ropes of what it actually takes to get good candidates elected. That groundwork led her to her current roles: Precinct Chair for the Williamson County Democratic Party, and founding board member and Acting President of the Leander Democrats Club, where she focuses on growing the community and building support for local Democratic candidates.

Long before she was organizing coalitions, she was learning to build things in a more literal sense: she’s a proud Aggie with a BS in Environmental Design from Texas A&M, and went on to earn a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Texas, giving her a builder’s eye for both physical spaces and community structures.

That same instinct for service shows up everywhere else in her life, too, starting right at home, where she serves as her neighborhood’s HOA President. She’s also an alumna of the Leander Citizen Police Academy, an active member of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), and an appointed member of the Leander Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee, helping guide the city’s long-term planning.

Kerry Stevens

Vice President

Kerry Stevens serves as Vice President of the Leander Democrats Club and was an early organizer of the coalition of Travis and Williamson County Precinct Chairs and volunteers in Leander under the name of Leander Democrats Together. He also serves the wider party as the Travis County Democratic Party (TCDP) Chair of Precinct 388, Chair of the Far Northwest Democrats Super Precinct, and a Vice Chair of TCDP.

For the past 30 years, Kerry’s quest has been to create a more just and equitable community where all people can work, play, learn, and live to their full potential. Before directing that energy into the political world, he was focused on non-profit and faith-based organizations.

Kerry grew up as a country boy in Indiana, got an engineering degree from Purdue, and worked for IBM for 32 years before retiring in 2013. He’s lived in Texas for more than 40 years.

Matt Pitcher

Secretary

Matt is a proud Girl Dad, business executive, and lifelong Democrat. He worked for the first Democrat President to be reelected since FDR, served on the TX State Party Convention’s Platform Committee, and is a founding board member of the Leander Democrats. He has also directly helped numerous Democrats win elections locally. He’s a Democrat because he believes that “we’re all in this together” is a much better governing philosophy than “you’re on your own.”

He has a BS degree in Economics from Southern Methodist University and holds a Public Leadership Credential from the JFK School of Government from Harvard University.

Matt has dedicated himself to serving his community by being a commissioner on the Leander Public Arts and Culture Commission (LPACC) and is a member of several community boards including the Leander Foundation, the Leander Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) and the Williamson County Service Coalition (WiSC).

Jean Swart

Communications Director

Jean Swart serves as Communications Director for Leander Democrats, bringing a background in engineering and community engagement.

A longtime supporter of Democratic values, Jean is active in grassroots organizing and advocacy. She serves as Precinct Chair for Precinct 394 of the Travis County Democratic Party and Vice President of the Far Northwest Democrats. She has also contributed to local education initiatives through All In LISD and the District-wide Educational Improvement Council.

Since 2023, Jean has served as a Quality Assurance Chapter Lead at the University of Texas Applied Research Laboratories. Previously, she spent 14 years at AT&T, focusing on accessibility for people with disabilities.

Originally from Maryland, Jean moved to Texas for graduate school. After 20 years in Cedar Park, she moved to Leander in 2020, where she lives with her husband, Bryan, her mother, and their dog, Evie.
